Frequent Asked Questions
The following is a list of some of the questions I get on a regular basis regarding cosmetic DENTISTRY:
Q1: How much do Dental VENEERS cost?
I will give you an estimate, but would first like to explain some options.
‘Veneers’ is a term that is widely use to describe a full coverage front surface of a tooth with some form of dental
material. This material can be resin or ceramic. In ceramic there are also a number of types of ceramic that as you can
imagine, will influence the cost. To learn more about veneers please click on this link.
It is therefore very difficult to give you a once off answer. Our fee structure will range between R500 to R3500 / tooth. (2009 prices)
To get great looking veneers 100% of the time one has to follow a system that will almost always guarantee results. Any good cosmetic dentist will use some form of system as veneers are 50% skill and 50% art. The system I use works like this:
We make use of a wax-up appointment to show you exactely what your new veneers will look like before we even get started. We also allow for a try-in appointment where you can try out your new smile and if you are not happy, we make adjustments. This is a crucial appointment, because once your veneers are cemented on, they cannot be changed! We will never fit your veneers if you are not 100% happy with the try-in stage.
The time and effort involve to make great looking veneers could sometimes really be substantial. As you can see, unlike other dental work, dental veneers are evaluated only on how they look and that is all! You can easily spot the difference between high end and low end porcelain veneers. The type of porcelain that is use also makes a big difference. Lastly, we discuss with you the many smile designs options where you can even change your ‘personality’ by choosing a certain design. It is the amount of chair time and effort that most people forget that goes into making something that carries such a high cosmetic value.
As you can see the best will be to come in and make use of my FREE SMILE MAKE OVER consultation.

Q2: How much do DENTAL IMPLANTS cost?
Implants are truly amazing and without them, dentistry today just wouldn’t be the same. First ask yourself: What is a new, brand new tooth with root and crown worth to you? Lets put this in better context:
To restore a broken down tooth with a healthy root in RSA costs +- R2500. To restore a broken down tooth with an infected root that requires root treatment and crowning, will cost +- R5000.
Now, lets rather remove the whole tooth and give you a new one that will never decay, almost guaranteed a lifetime. What is this worth to you??
You starting to get the idea. Also remember that the material are coming from a highly specialized company and most of these Companies are overseas. The cost for the implant, generally speaking will be +_R10 000 – R12 000 without complications.
On its own it sounds like a lot of money for a new tooth, but the benefits are overwhelming comparing to leaving a gap without a tooth.

Q3: My dentist says I have gum disease.
Should this concern me?
Gum disease is a serious and real thread to society today and is the biggest cause for tooth loss in adults world wide. All my patients get a complete report on the health of their teeth and gums at their 6 monthly visits. Gum disease often start as the ‘typical bleeding gums’ experience many patients report at these visits.
People that get gum disease usually do not floss their teeth and are mostly uneducated about the disease.
Don’t underestimate this serious disease. For more info and to educate yourself on the topic go to this gum disease link to find out more.
